Big Orange Ball is a yearly costume dance party where partygoers can enjoy the festivities while continuing to support Howard Brown Health's mission of providing LGBTQ+ affirming healthcare. This was the first in-person BOB since 2019, so for this year, new concepts for both the BOB logomark and overall design were presented to the Events team.
The team requested graphics to convey the idea of a combination of 1970s disco with Halloween elements, so I pulled inspiration from the hierarchical layout of vintage horror movie posters to create a theme following the concept of "Friday the 13th meets Saturday Night Fever". Stock photography as well as photos provided from 2019's event further displayed the diversity Howard Brown Health aims to convey in its messaging, while also showcasing the clientele at the event.
The logomark will be used from this point forward, but for this year, I combined a gradient with a glow effect to emulate the elements in horror movie posters. Other graphic elements such as the grainy paper overlay, color effects, and layer masking to the characters themselves further supported my inspiration behind the design.
Once the movie poster was created, promotional material for Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter was subsequently created to feature both the "characters" as well as the various performers at the event.
Big Orange Ball occurs every Halloween season in Lincoln Park West and features various drag performances throughout the night.
